They both battled it out to be head
pupil on Dancing On Ice on Sunday night, but it was eventually Anthea
Turner who was taught a lesson and was expelled from the show this week.
The
TV presenter has become the latest star to be voted off the skating
competition after failing in the skate off against 'class clown' Keith
Chegwin.
But taking it
gracefully, Anthea told presenter Philip Schofield: 'Can I just say a
million, million thanks to this man here, he's been so patient,' as she
cuddled professional partner Andy Buchanan.
Expelled: Anthea Turner stands next to Keith Chegwin following the skate off to learn her fate
She then added: 'Dancing On Ice has the best team in television.'
It was Keith who the judges
decided to save, with both Jason and Karen agreeing to keep him in the
competition, before head judge Robin Cousins casting the final vote to
send Anthea home instead.
It was only Ashley Roberts who gave Turner a vote, telling her: 'Keith you're in my heart, but I'm going Anthea.'
Saved: Keith looked relieved after three of the four judges voted to keep him in until next week
Last skate: Anthea handled her exit well as she held her flowers and made her last appearance on the ice
And it seems her downfall was thanks to her depending on her skate partner too much.
After
performing her first dance effort, Robin told her: 'You look lovely.
But I've not seen one step that's not been manipulated by the man
standing next to you - don't rely on him.'
And
Jason Gardiner was as cutting as ever, telling her: 'I've enjoyed you
up until this week - you were like a cheap bottle of champagne on ice.
There was too much fizz.'
Giving it her all: Head judge Robin Cousins told
Anthea she looked lovely during her first routine but told her she was
relying on her dance partner too much
School's out: She showed off her physique in a white ensemble before going for black in the skate off
Last show: Chegwin will now go on to give it another shot in next week's contest
Winning them over: Earlier in the night even judge Jason Gardiner was impressed with Chegwin's skating
Keith Chegwin, meanwhile, who
made an impressive effort with his routine when he took to the ice for
the first time in the evening.
Even
Jason seemed happy, commenting afterwards: 'That was soft, it's
lyrical, it was smooth, there was a lovely connection with your
partner... I was drawn into you tonight.'
To which Chegwin beamed: 'Oh my God, they've made my day, that's the best thing that's happened.'
It
was also a good night for Matt Lapinskas, who really was head boy as he
topped the leader board, keeping himself safe for another week.
He's
endured a tough week of rehearsals for Dancing On Ice, taking a tumble
during an attempted headstand on the ice several days ago.
And
his routine was put in to jeopardy once more just hours before his live
performance on Sunday night when his skating partner Brianne fractured
the top of her coccyx during another fall.
But
the pair managed to style it out and rule the school as they topped the
leader board at the end of the show for 'School Disco' week.
Time's up: Anthea Turner has become the latest celebrity to be voted off Dancing On Ice
Up against each other: Anthea and Keith gave it one last shot before their fate was ultimately decided
Top of the class: Matt Lapinskas tops the leader board on Dancing On Ice's School Disco week, scoring a total of 25.5
And the judges were (mainly)
left suitably impressed after they completed their routine with slightly
altered moves to take into consideration her injury.
Although
there was some disagreement on the panel, with Jason Gardiner
complaining that the EastEnders star wasn't showing him enough variation
from week to week.
Gardiner
whinged: 'The thing is it's not new for me, you're not changing it up. I
don't see you out of your comfort zone yet, we get that with Keith, he
did something different tonight.
Head boy: He wowed the crowds but couldn't
completely win over judge Jason Gardiner, who complained he's not
changing his routines up enough
Ice cool: The soap star danced to Five with his partner Brianne as they showed off this week's moves
Daring: Matt managed to perform a lift as he glided around the ice on Sunday night's show
'When are you going to do something different?'
But
Karen Barber argued back: 'That was fantastic, you get what you're
given and you performed it brilliantly,' with Ashley Roberts adding: 'You always entertain whatever you're given.'
But still not happy, Jason cut in: 'It's the same stuff, you've got to change it up.'
Unimpressed: Matt may have received the highest points but Jason asked him to spice up his routines if he comes back next week
Oops! Just hours earlier in rehearsals Brianne fractured the top of her coccyx after the pair fell over on the ice
That's got to hurt! The pair were forced to make some last minute changes to their routine but impressed nevertheless
Which led to Matt promising
Jason he'll bring something new to the table next week if he's lucky
enough to be kept in the contest.
But
he wasn't the only star to wow on the night, with soap star Samia
Ghadie performing successfully the jaw dropping and risky move the
headbanger.
Gaining an impressive 23.5 compared to Matt's 25.5, she was hailed by all four judges and ended up second on the leader board.
Bubbly blonde: She was, of course, much nicer to
the contestants compared to fellow judge Jason Gardiner, known for his
nasty judgement
On the panel: She debuted the long bob on Sunday night after getting it cut in the week
Wearing a revealing animal print number, Samia put on an impressive display with her rumoured boyfriend Sylvain Longchambon.
And
it was down to judge Jason to again deliver a controversial comment as
he critiqued their perforamnce while giving a dig at their love life.
He said: 'There's a lot of chemistry between you, I wonder why,' although added: 'I wanted that to be the performance of the night and it was,' but complained: 'It needed to be a bit more cheeky.'
Prim and proper: Host Christine Bleakley went for an up 'do as she wore a black dress with a slit
Another one bites the dust: The contestants are slowly depleting as they get closer to the final
Karen, meanwhile, commented:c 'You are becoming the dark horse of the competition.'
Addressing
the daring head banger move, head judge Robin Cousins told the pair:
'It was fantastic. Normally when somebody has to do the headbanger at
the end, the first three quarters suffers because that's all they're
thinking about.'
Meanwhile. it was X Factor star Shayne Ward who braved taking to the ice first on Sunday night.
'Chemistry': Judge Jason had a dig at Samia and Sylvain's rumoured romance telling them they 'have chemistry, I wonder why'
That's a bit daring! They performed the dangerous move the head banger to try and win over votes
Animal instinct: She showed off her petite figure in the leopard print tow piece as she clung on to Sylvain
Awaiting feedback: Samia seemed pleased with the comments about the routine as she skated into second place for the night
High expectations: Beth Tweddle received a mixed
reaction, with Jason telling her she had 'no personality' and the
others praising the amount of content they produced
The singer showed off by dancing to Livin' La Vida Loca.
Scoring a total of 20 at the end, Shayne showed off his snake hips, much to the delight of female judges Ashley and Karen.
Next up was Olympian Luke Campbell, who again scored 20 out of a possible 40 for his efforts on the night.
No wonder he's popular! Shayne Ward showed off his chest as he took to the ice first on the night
Practice makes perfect: He is showing an improvement each week as he gets more confident on skates
Looks like fun! He danced to Ricky Martin's Livin' La Vida Loca as he set the standard for the rest of the celebrities
Low scorer: Joe Pasquale left the judges unimpressed but the fans kept him out of the crucial skate off
Voila! The comedian laughed when he got his scores and admitted he's not the best skater
After being chastised about his
timing and rhythm issues, he took it on his chin and admitted he lacks
both - but insisted he would work on it for any future shows.
Although the other Olympian in the competition, Beth Tweddle, fared slightly better.
She scored well but again was faced with a number of comments from the judges - some constructive, others not so.
His turn: Gareth Thomas showed off a fun routine, sneaking into next week easily
He's got the muscles for it: Gareth glided around wearing ripped jeans and braces for the performance
Their turn: Luke Campbell was chastised by the judges for his lack of rhythm and timing but lives to try again next week
Matching: The pair glided around in their routine outfits before hearing the feedback
At least they're all smiling: Jane Torvill dressed up in read as she joined Christopher Dean for yet more feedback
Robin told her: 'We can still see your brain thinking about the skating - you just now need to set up the performance level.'
But
Jason, of course stepped it up a level by blankly telling her: 'Well
Beth this was your chance to show us you have a personality... and you
have none.'
So it was down to her dance partner Daniel Whiston to say defensively: Beth is so much fun to work with.'
Opening routine: The contestants started the
show in their school uniforms as they performed minus their dance
partners for the first time
Tongue in cheek: Christopher and Jayne dressed up as the headmasters for the cheeky and fun sequenc
